Create the perfect home yoga practice.
Many of us are spending more time at home these days, and sometimes it can be hard to stay motivated.
For my first yoga post, I want to talk about ways I stay motivated with my home yoga practice and hope to inspire you to do the same!
Finding a place that you can easily keep or set up your mat is key. I usually keep my mat rolled out in front of my fireplace, so that when I feel the urge to practice all I have to do is crank up the heat and get on my mat! I strongly urge you to put up the pets (and kids!) if you can so you can practice undisturbed. It’s also important to keep any props you like to use for your practice nearby so you don’t have to interrupt your practice to get them.
Keep it short and sweet! Especially if you’re new to practicing at home. If we set to loftly a goal it’s easy to get distracted by our to-do lists. If you keep it to 15-30 minutes you’re more likely to complete what you set out to do and feel accomplished!
Try and practice at the same time every day. I’m an early riser, so for me practicing in the early morning while the whole house is still asleep is best for me. Find what works for you!
There are several formats you can use to practice at home. If you’re new to yoga, and don’t know where to begin, I recommend following a on-demand or a live-streaming class. There are SO many to choose from these days. I’ll be posting a few FREE videos here for you, but in the meantime here are a few options that I really like:
If you have a strong yoga practice already you may just wanna roll out your mat, throw on some tunes and let your body be your guide. Once you tap into your body's intuition it will lead you where it wants to go.
Set an Intention. Setting an intention for your practice can help you stay the duration. An intention is a quality you want to carry with you for the length of your practice. It gives you purpose and something to come back to if the mind begins to wander (and for most of us, it will!). No matter how many times the mind wanders, just keep coming back to your breath and your intention!
I hope this guide helps get you motivated to move your body, breath, and connect with your inner light!
